Our Story
Founded in 1993 by Grant Brown, Mars Technologies Emerged from a Lifelong Enthusiasm for Computers and a Vision to Transform Local Businesses through Technology.
Meet Grant Brown, the visionary founder of Mars Technologies. His fascination with computers sparked in 1980, when he was just 10 years old, kindled by a genuine passion for technology, not for the potential of a future career. Self-taught from magazines, Grant embraced the complexities of coding long before he realized it could be a professional path. His academic journey was unique, starting college two years early, in a time when technology courses were a rarity.
After earning a Bachelor’s in Science in International Finance from UNC and embracing the life of an ocean lifeguard, Grant’s true calling in technology beckoned. In 1993, he established Mars Technologies in North Myrtle Beach, simultaneously running a Bulletin Board System (BBS) with a satellite Usenet feed, connecting tech enthusiasts before the internet’s widespread advent.
Under Grant’s leadership, Mars Technologies flourished, expanding its reach from Georgetown, SC to Wilmington, NC, and growing a dedicated team. His work, including consulting for First Union’s online banking and developing casino software certified by GLI, showcases his adaptability and mastery in various programming languages.
Grant’s passion extends beyond the professional sphere. A competitive gamer at heart, he has engaged in tournaments in Counter-Strike and Team Fortress and continues to enjoy Overwatch and World of Warcraft with friends. He humorously credits his gaming experience with sharpening his strategic business skills.
